Solar Thermal Project to Drive Oil Extraction at Belridge

A new solar thermal project of 850 MW has been developed in order to help Aera energy power and its operations. Aera energy power is an oil and gas producer situated in Southern California at the Belridge oilfield. This project will make use of solar electricity and solar steam for the oil field thereby reducing the amount of natural gas which is currently being used at the site. For the heavy oil production process, steam is injected into the reservoir.

Sanjeev Kumar, who is the vice president of Glass America’s said that they have partnered with Aera so as to address some of the biggest challenges, keeping in mind the growing energy convergence where conventional energy market leaders are collaborating with players working with renewable.

By first half of 2019 GlassPoint and Aera plan to break ground on the Bellridge Solar Plant. As early as 2020 this project is anticipated to start producing electricity and steam.
