Recent study for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has shown that simple dietary intervention will help in mitigating colonic inflammation and help in recovering gut health. A person suffering from inflammatory bowel disease will experience high degree of pain leading to severe fatigue and diarrhea. According to this study, strawberries has resulted in treating effectively and curing people suffering from IBD. Researchers, who have come up with this report, are going to present their result at the 256th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Hang Xiao, leading this study, states that increasing intake of high animal fat, sugar and low fiber diets are responsible for increasing the risks related to IBD and colonic inflammation. Moreover, sedentary lifestyle and dietary habits play a crucial role in promoting these diseases.
As of 2015, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3 million adults are diagnosed with IBD in the U.S. Inflammatory bowel disease comprises of Crohn’s disease that infects any area of gastrointestinal tract and ulcerative colitis. It also causes inflammation of the rectum and colon.
The study also reveals that dietary consumption of vegetables and fruits will help in decreasing the risk involved through IBD. It is a practical and an effective way to reduce colonic inflammation in people suffering from IBD and for the general public.
The experiment was conducted on a group of mice, where they feed the mice with strawberries in the quantity that can be reasonably consumed by humans. The experiment resulted in reducing diarrhea and weight loss in mice with IBD.
