Developing New Technologies to Prevent Lags in IoT Systems

The wonders of internet of things are well-known across multiple sectors and industries. The resilience and seamless control of IoT sensors over industrial operational is a matter of distinction. Meanwhile, from residential complexes to healthcare centers, several establishments have embraced IoT technologies with immense fruition. However, the performance and results derived from IoT systems largely depends on the timing of these technologies. Time lags in execution of IoT systems can have dire consequences for the corresponding ecosystem. These systems are extensively used in surgical procedures and patient management which makes the issue even more critical.

 Analyzing Traffic Congestion across Networks

 A new research conducted at Swanson School of Engineering, Pittsburgh University have proposed a solution for preventing such lags. The researchers aim to optimize the potential of wireless channels in an IoT setup to provide lag-free connections. The solution will reduce traffic congestion in wireless networks which could in turn prevent lags in IoT execution. Moreover, there is no need for dedicated hardware or software systems to execute such a solution.

 Researchers believe that automated warehouses and smart factories would largely benefit from the new system. The researchers revealed their findings at an International Conference organized in 2019 by the by the Association for Computing Machinery. They documented their findings in an extensive research paper titled “EasyPass: Combating IoT Delay with Multiple Access Wireless Side Channels”.

 Developing Subsidiary Network to Avoid Lags

 Time lags in IoT systems usually occur due to heavy traffic across the network bundle. Therefore, the researchers developed a subsidiary network channel that could help in carrying the response of IoT sensors. Elimination of network competition from this channel helps in seamless and unhindered transfer of signals. The new method named “EasyPass” by the research team.
