In an attempt for innovation in displays, researchers have found that clothes and fabrics are a medium to do this.
Called PocketView, the new technology uses LED lights to display basic information. The technology can function as a single independent piece of technology or could be incorporated into existing or next-gen smart devices.
To develop the technology, researchers created prototypes that imitate smartphones, key fobs, pens and other shapes and sizes. The display brightens through fabrics to display notifications for messages or email, time, weather or other types of basic information.
In fact, the idea is not display the entire information that are normally seen on the smartphone display, stated one of the associates behind the finding.
Meanwhile, these displays show minimal information. This ability is good enough for example, for walking or biking for basic instructions of navigation. Or if a message is received and divert of attention from what is being done is not desired. The display can be peeked and notification can be observed.
The new display technology is developed by a team of researchers in the field of computer interaction. One goal behind developing the technology is to develop devices that regular people want and need for which the team conducted mass public survey to obtain information on the design of prototypes.
Importantly, some of the results obtained from survey challenged the research team to rethink the shape, size, and functionality of displays. The different sizes of the display are important because a large volume of women’s clothing has small pockets. For example, a phone in the front pocket of a woman’s clothing can be uncomfortable. Therefore, to address this, having something small only allows people to have more options.
In a new development, researchers at Lund University have developed a completely new stimulation technique. The method uses ultra-thin microelectrodes to fight severe pain. Importantly, the technique provides an effective and personalized pain relief without common side effects associated with pain relief drugs.
The findings of the study is published in Science Advances.
In fact, side-effects of treatment for long-term pain often considerably tarnishes the quality of affected patients. Whilst the persistent pain mandates analgesic treatment to function in everyday life. Traditional treatment for pain relief certainly reduces pain but at the same time has an impact on the senses and mental function. There also lies considerable risk to develop a drug addiction.
In fact, pain also accounts for considerable cost for the society in the form of sick leave, lost production, and healthcare costs. According to a recently released American report, about 8% American population suffer from chronic pain of high impact.
A team of researchers at Lund developed a method to fight pain via personalized stimulation using tissue-friendly, ultra-thin microelectrodes.
Structurally, the electrodes are very soft and extremely easy on the brain. The electrodes are particularly meant to activate the pain control zones of the brain without activation of the nerve cell circuits simultaneously that produce side effects.
Elaborately, the method involves implantation of a cluster of extremely thin electrodes and then select a sub-group of electrodes to provide pure pain relief with zero side effects. With this procedure, it enables an extremely accurate and personalized stimulation treatment to have shown to work for each individual.
The activation of the pain control centers of the brain blocks the pain and these in turn block only the signal transfer in the pathway to pain to the cerebral cortex.
How human genetics work is one question and if science can create an altogether new genetic system is another question for researchers. The grants awarded by Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences and Texas A&M University will be used to find an answer to this.
The first part of the grant focuses on understanding the routes responsible for the chemical alternation of DNA, which is important for both normal biological functions and diseases.
The second part of the grant focuses on developing novel genetic systems that functions in fundamentally different ways than what are known in biology.
Anatomically, in complex genomes of the humans, DNA is chemically modified by the addition of methyl groups. The establishment and maintenance of proper patterns of methyl modifications is a highly choreographed process that not only involves the addition of methyl groups but also their removal via a process known as demethylation.
The combined nature of the work is aimed to discover how a key enzyme in demethylation pathway – DNA glycosylase – finds the correct methyl groups. The objective is to remove these methyl groups and leave the remaining in place. This is an important question with direct applications for diseases as well as potential therapeutics of diseases.
Meanwhile, the accurate elimination of methyl groups from genome is critical for normal development of humans, and dysregulation of the process can lead to many common diseases. For example, the abnormal placing of DNA methyl groups is one of the critical signs of cancer cells. Therefore, the revealing of underlying mechanisms in the regulation of TDG, advances in the understanding of etiology of diseases is expected and to provide impetus for clinical applications in the future.

A telepresence robot is a smartphone, computer, or tablet-controlled robot used for providing a virtual presence of the concerned member. The robot has a video camera, speakers, microphones, screens, and others that help in proper interaction. The healthcare sector is deploying these robots on a large scale due to the convenience aspects. These factors help in boosting the growth of the medical telepresence robots market.
Widening Uses of Medical Telepresence Robots to Invite Substantial Growth
The scope of medical telepresence robots use is increasing extensively. Many large hospitals have deployed these robots to provide unhindered patient care. A healthcare professional can consult a patient without even being physically available. For instance, Dignity Health is using these robots in nearly 32 of its hospitals. They self-navigate to the concerned sport and the doctor can interact with the patient without being physically present. In another instance, a hospital in China has telepresence robots which act as a personal assistant, helping them with their appointment schedule, etc. Such developments bode well for the growth of the medical telepresence robots market.

North America to Garner Immense Growth for Medical Telepresence Robots Market
The medical telepresence robots market in North America is estimated to observe a dominating streak across the forecast period of 2020-2030. The presence of a well-developed health infrastructure in the region will help in expanding the growth of the medical telepresence robots market in North America. Asia Pacific is also estimated to observe considerable growth due to an increase in focus on developing a good healthcare infrastructure.
